Defending champion Colegio de San Juan de Letran hit another snag in their campaign after Louie Sangalang and Brent Paraiso were each slapped with another one-game suspension.
Sangalang and Paraiso were both handed one-game suspensions last Wednesday after getting ejections in their match against Mapua University the day prior. Those suspensions forced them to miss Letran’s 76-68 loss to San Beda last Friday.
But after a review, league commissioner Tonichi Pujante recommended that the two be suspended for one more game each due to actions “detrimental to the league”.
With this, both Sangalang and Paraiso will miss another game as Letran is scheduled to take on streaking Lyceum of the Philippines University on Sunday.
“I did a thorough review after the game kasi ‘yung actions nila ay bothering pati ‘yung mga statements to the media. Detrimental to the league eh, ‘yung sinabi ni Paraiso na ‘Saang planeta ba galing ‘to,” Pujante told GMA News Online.
“So I made my recommendation to the Mancom, which the Mancom upheld yesterday. They deliberated on it.”
Sangalang and Paraiso will also be asked to issue letters of apology for their reactions to the ejections. Aside from comments to the media, Sangalang used obscene language and gestures on his way out of the court.
The Knights’ veteran big man will also be asked to render community service that will be determined by the Management Committee. Sangalang was also “given a stern warning that any similar action in the future will merit suspension for the remainder of the season”.
